JILI58 Sports and Bingo Maths: Checking Odds Margins Against Draw Expected Value

If you already know what decimal odds are, the next skill is checking how much of each price belongs to the operator, and doing the same for a bingo room. This JILI58 lesson works through three-way football markets, parlays and a 90-ball draw, with every step shown. JILI58 is an independent academy; odds, card prices and prize structures vary by licensed operator.

Decimal and Hong Kong Odds on One Line

Philippine sportsbooks commonly show decimal odds, and some also show Hong Kong odds. Hong Kong odds are decimal odds minus 1, so they display profit per peso rather than total return.

DecimalHong KongReturn on ₱500Implied probability
1.800.80500 × 1.80 = ₱9001 ÷ 1.80 = 55.56%
2.501.50500 × 2.50 = ₱1,2501 ÷ 2.50 = 40.00%
4.003.00500 × 4.00 = ₱2,0001 ÷ 4.00 = 25.00%

Removing the Margin From a Three-Way Football Market

Sample prices only: home 2.50, draw 3.20, away 2.90.

  1. Implied chances: 1 ÷ 2.50 = 40.00%, 1 ÷ 3.20 = 31.25%, 1 ÷ 2.90 = 34.48%.
  2. Book total: 40.00 + 31.25 + 34.48 = 105.73%, so the overround is 5.73%.
  3. Normalise the home chance: 40.00 ÷ 105.73 = 37.83%.
  4. Fair home odds: 1 ÷ 0.3783 = 2.64, against the 2.50 on offer.
  5. On a ₱500 winning home bet you collect ₱1,250 instead of a fair ₱1,320, a ₱70 gap that is the margin at work.

How a Parlay Compounds the Edge

Each leg of an accumulator carries its own margin, and multiplying legs multiplies the effect. Assume three genuine 50/50 events each priced 1.90.

LegsOffered priceFair priceOffered ÷ fairEffective margin
11.902.000.9505.0%
21.90 × 1.90 = 3.612 × 2 = 4.000.9039.8%
31.90³ = 6.862³ = 8.000.85714.3%

A single at a 5% margin becomes a treble paying back about 85.7% of fair value. The bigger headline return is paid for with a much larger cut.

Expected Value of a Bingo Card

Bingo has no printed odds, so you build the price yourself. The room below is hypothetical; real card prices and prize rules vary by operator.

  1. 120 cards sold at ₱10 each: 120 × ₱10 = ₱1,200 collected.
  2. Hypothetical full-house prize: ₱960, which is 960 ÷ 1,200 = 80% returned.
  3. Expected value per card with one winner and equal cards: ₱960 ÷ 120 = ₱8.
  4. Average cost per ₱10 card: ₱10 − ₱8 = ₱2, a 20% edge in this sample room.
  5. Buying 12 cards: chance 12 ÷ 120 = 10%, spend ₱120, expected return 12 × ₱8 = ₱96.
  6. If the prize is fixed and only 80 cards sell, EV per card becomes ₱960 ÷ 80 = ₱12, which is why turnout matters to the maths.

A Five-Minute Routine for Checking Any Price

  1. Screenshot the full market so every outcome's price is captured at the same moment.
  2. Convert each price with 1 ÷ odds and add the results together.
  3. Subtract 100% to get the overround, then compare it with the same market at another licensed operator.
  4. For a parlay, multiply the offered prices and divide by the product of the fair prices you calculated.
  5. For bingo, note the card price, the stated prize and the number of cards in play, then divide prize by cards.
  6. Write the edge beside your stake so the cost of the bet is visible before you confirm.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a bookmaker's overround?

Convert every outcome's decimal odds into 1 ÷ odds, add them up and subtract 100%. A total of 105.73% means an overround of 5.73%.

Why do parlays feel generous but cost more?

Each leg's margin multiplies. Three legs at a 5% margin leave roughly 85.7% of fair value, an effective cut of about 14%.

How do I work out bingo expected value?

Divide the prize pool by the number of cards in play to get the average return per card, then compare it with the card price. Prize rules vary by operator.

Are Hong Kong odds better value than decimal odds?

No. They are the same price shown differently: Hong Kong odds equal decimal odds minus 1.

Can I fund sports and bingo play with GCash or Maya?

Many licensed operators accept GCash, Maya, GoTyme, InstaPay and QRPh, with limits and processing times that vary by operator. Players must be 21 or older.

Is JILI58 a sportsbook or bingo operator?

No. JILI58 is an independent academy. Bets and bingo cards are sold by licensed operators.
